On March 13th, 1997, during the commemoration of Jozef Szajna’s 75th birthday and the 50th anniversary of his creative work in the Siemaszkowa Theatre in Rzeszów, the Szajna Gallery opens. In Poland and all over the world, it is the only permanent exhibition of works of Jozef Szajna – one of the most important artists of the 20th century. All works displayed in the Gallery are Professor’s donation to Rzeszów, where he was born.
The Szajna Gallery offers 54 works of art: monumental paintings, drawings, collages, spatial compositions and elements of stage scenery of Szajna’s greatest theatre performances. Since the very beginning, the Gallery is the meeting point of artists of different fields of art: painters, writers, musicians, people of theatre.
In November 2008, the 1st Multimedia Szajna Festival took place in the Wanda Siemaszkowa Theatre in Rzeszów. Its aim was to present the achievements of multimedia art that came into being with the participation of the latest electronic technology. At the same time, a video library collecting recordings of artistic events and works of audiovisual art is being created.
